Want to help NEST but not sure how? There are several things you can do!

North East Sea Turtles (NEST) is entirely dependent on the work of committed volunteer staff from the local community. As the organisation is in its early years and has only a small active membership, any contribution is a great help. We are continually looking to bring new support on-board and to form new relationships with community members – this means you! Becoming involved in the conservation, education and awareness effort is easy:

Volunteer with the group –

If you are interested in volunteering a small part of your time to become an active member of NEST then please get in touch with us via Facebook or GMail. We would be delighted to discuss what this entails with you! NEST needs active members like yourself!

Report and sightings –

Going for a walk, run or a swim?

Although turtles nest on the beach at night-time you can make an important contribution to sea turtle conservation in your community simply whilst relaxing on the beach. Please record any observations you make of turtle tracks, in-water sightings or strandings by:

  • Taking a note of the date;
  • the location, e.g. “the end of the beach, near the river/trail”;
  • if, for example, the track came out and went back to the sea;
  • and if you think the turtle successfully nested. All done!

*Camera phone pictures can be enjoyed by members of the Facebook page and these are also very useful if you are unsure about the outcome of tracks/events. Please feel free to send them in.

Please then send the notes you made to NEST via gmail (northeastseaturtles@gmail.com) or by speaking to NEST members in person. All records of nests and sightings will be used to allocate resources; make management recommendations and, importantly, establish the number of endangered sea turtles in the north-east of Tobago. Any information you can provide, no matter how basic it may seem, is welcomed and valued.

Rasing Awareness –

NEST must boost it’s profile on the ground. In an attempt to raise awareness information and educational materials become increasingly important. If you are able to donate sign, leaflet or posters or materials and skills to make these then we would love to hear from you. Alternatively as we seek to raise the online profile of the group we ask that you recommend this page to as many of your friends using the Facebook option.
